Garuda Wisnu Kencana or commonly known as Gwk is a work of art by a Balinese artist named I Nyoman Nuarta. The 121 meter tall statue was built for 28 years and is one of the icons of the island of Bali which is always crowded with tourists, both domestic and foreign. Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a cultural park that has strong Balinese cultural characteristics.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana refers to the name of the god Wisnu as a symbol of the god who preserves the universe and rides a large Garuda bird. The Garuda bird being ridden is part of the story of Garuda and its kingdom which tells of the sacrifice of the Garuda bird in saving its mother. Kencana itself means gold.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana is also a cultural park complex which stands on 60 hectares of land. Garuda Wisnu Kencana has its address at Jalan Raya Uluwatu, Ungasan Village, South Kuta, Badung Regency and is considered a symbol of the mission to save the environment and the world. From I Ngurah Rai Airport, visitors only need to travel 30 minutes.
To enter the Gwk area, visitors need to pay an entrance ticket of Rp130.000 per person. at that price visitors will get free tickets for several cultural performances, also get free drinks. however, to climb to the top of the statue visitors need to pay RP300.000. available facilities such as restaurants, food court, cinema, playground and scooters. there is also a buggy that is ready to take visitors from where to buy tickets to the gwk building, visitors only need to pay Rp40.000 for the round trip fee. various activities that can be done include watching cultural performances, such as Balinese dance, keris barong, archipelago, hanging out, and admiring Balinese art such as carving statues. there are also various Balinese souvenirs that can be purchased as souvenirs, Garuda Wisnu Kencana is open every day from 08.00 am to 21.00 pm.
